Marissa Mayer, Google VP of Search Product and User Experience, was interviewed by Charlie Rose last night. Fascinating!
Some interesting points:
- Google anticipates voice search to be here in 5 years, Vision search in 10
- The next big idea will be killer apps involving GPS with social networking (location-based search via smartphones/cell phones).
- Larry and Sergey are like Montessori Kids. Always asking, "Why?" and Sergey likes math and has an elephant memory. Larry's strength is interfaces and the tech side.
- Facebook etiquette: dont' remove your Wall.
- Steve Jobs is not only a master marketer but also a technologist.
- The internet needs to be as fast and easy to use, like turning the pages of a magazine.
- Most startups are marketing or sales driven, but Google remains technology driven.
- Yahoo has lost a lot of good and talented people, which is why it is not doing well
- Social networking = "the equivalent of user crack."
